La Pavoni History
The first ever machine for making espresso was built and patented in 1884 by Angelo Moriondo of Turin, Italy. An improved design was patented on April 28, 1903, by Luigi Bezzera. The founder of the La Pavoni company bought the patent and from 1905 produced espresso machines commercially on a small scale in Milan.
In the commercial market La Pavoni manufacture a range of traditional lever and semiautomatic machines as well as some electronic and some with volumetric dosing.
Leaders in domestic machines, the millennium and pre-millennium Europiccola and Professional represent a co-ordination of elegance, quality and reliability; manufactured since 1961, these machines will never be out of fashion; the Professional is exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
La Pavoni manufacture a range of domestic line hand lever manual espresso machines including:
Europiccola EN, Europiccola EL, Europiccola ELH, Europiccola ERG, Professional PLH, Professional PRG, Professional PDH, Stradivari STL, Stradivari STH, Stradivari SPL, Stradivari SPH, Stradivari Gran Romantica SGR, Romantica GRL,
All these machines can use a millennium or pre-millennium La Pavoni Professional Europiccola bottomless portafilter or a La Pavoni Professional Europiccola twin spout portafilter. These portafilters can use a combination of a 7g single shot basket or a 14g double shot basket.
How are our La Pavoni Professional & Europiccola compatible portafilters made?
The head of our La Pavoni Professional & Europiccola compatible portafilter is formed from solid brass. Brass is softened by heating prior to being pressed in to a portafilter mould. The resulting brass component is then machined to ensure the item has the correct shape and dimensions to fit a La Pavoni Professional & Europiccola group. Holes in this brass portafilter head are drilled and tapped in order to accept the correct size spout and handle. The portafilter head is then sent off for chrome plating before being assembled with the correct ancillary components – single or twin spout, 7g or 14g basket, plastic or wooden handle.
